Brecon - Contort 'Live @ Epstein Auto Services'

However the relative simple arrangement and strong rhythmic emphasis of ‘Contort’ seemed to fit a live electronic set up perfectly. I was lucky enough to have the amazingly talented Jamie Harding lined up to direct the live video and he quickly picked up on the gritty and mechanical nature of ‘Contort’ and suggested the dirty industrial feel of the garage as a location and luckily my local mechanic and general legend Ali agreed to let us film. Even though the track is predominately synth and sample based I really wanted to include as much live instrumentation as possible to maximise the sense of it being a live performance by actual real life humans! The additional of a midi triggered snare drum in the break down, occasional cymbal swell and beautifully gnarled modular synth elements really help bring the performance to life.

Project Management Strategies

Before you begin any project you must decide how you want the project to be planned and executed. There are many different types of project management and it is important that you understand and choose carefully the correct methodology for your project. Charlie and I decided to record a short podcast showing this process...

working on location

As we were filming on location and away from the comfort of our studio, it was important to create a kit list with everything listed that we would need to bring along with us. Here is everything we decided to bring with us:

Filming

When filming the B-roll for the dance videos everyone chipped in, grabbing a camera and shooting as many nice shots as possible. Then when is came to filming the interviews everyone had more defined roles. As the project manager, I asked the dancers the questions and stayed on the lead camera. Then, I had 2 more people on cameras filming from different angles. Here is a behind the scenes video I shot to showcase what it's like filming on location.
